June 2nd is National Moonshine Day!
What is moonshine, you ask?
Moonshine is historically an illicitly distilled or smuggled alcohol, but today commercially sold moonshine is simply an unaged whiskey.
We’re big fans of Sugarlands, an award-winning distillery in Tennessee, and their delicious moonshine. We stock their Butterscotch Gold Moonshine, Appalachian Apple Pie Moonshine, and PGA Championship Iced Tea Lemonade Moonshine Cocktail. (We also carry several of their Sippin’ Creams – creamy flavored liqueurs – and their Hazelnut Rum.)
Butterscotch Gold Moonshine
With flavors of vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, and hazelnut, this moonshine is delicious paired with snacks like brownies and buttery popcorn. It’s also a yummy substitute for vodka in a sweet cocktail recipe like an espresso martini.
Pineapple Upside Down Shot
Combine about 2 ounces of the moonshine with some pineapple juice and grenadine over ice. Stir and strain into a shot glass. Top with a maraschino cherry and enjoy!
Appalachian Apple Pie Moonshine
This apple moonshine is unique because it’s made strictly with green apple as opposed to the more classic red apple varietal. It has a citrusy, caramel bite to it and is delightful served neat, over ice, or in a whiskey cocktail.
Apple Pie Mimosa
Combine about 2 ounces each of Appalachian Apple Pie Moonshine, orange juice, and ginger ale over ice. Strain into a champagne glass and serve with a slice of apple.
PGA Championship Iced Tea Lemonade Moonshine Cocktail
Nothing goes better with a round of golf than a boozy iced tea-lemonade, and this ready-to-drink cocktail is citrusy, summery, and very refreshing. It’s modern moonshine at its best.
